Australia’s first 5G Network
Recently Telstra has implemented 5G coverage on 200 sites covering the CBD in 10 cites. These include Malborne, Canberra, Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Hobart, Toowoomba, and Launceston. But what does 5G bring to the table, compared to our already super-fast 4G+ or 4GX networks?
5G is the newest mobile network and is an upgrade of the current 4G network and features wider frequency range from 30GHz to 300GHz. This is much higher than 4G, which only reaches 6GHz.This means in theory that 5G could be up to 20 times faster than the current 4G network. 5G will also carry the potential to connect a million’s devices per square kilometer. As a result, your phones and other devices will be faster and more reliable.
So, what do you need to use the new cellular network? You will require a 5G capable device. These are very new and are normally only a feature of flagship devices from companies such as Samsung and LG. This may slow your uptake of 5G until you upgrade your phone.
